History:
Founding Father, Gene Davis, started the Donut Gang
in late 2000 with the help of Mickey Greer, Dick Darnell, Stan Webb,
Chester Toothman and Jim Greene. These street rodders are the original
members who were responsible for nurturing and getting the Donut Gang
started. The Donut Gang quickly began to prosper. In August of 2003, the
"Rod Father" announced that he was loading up Mary Jo and all his stuff and
going back home to California.
![]() There was a big going away party and fellow Donuter, Richard Haas composed, "The Ballad of Number 1" which is all about the heroics of our friend and founder (you'll find a copy in the "Commentaries" section).
Today, the 26 members of the Donut Gang of Austin
continue the tradition of having fun under the guidance of all our
active members.
The common objective of The Donut Gang is strictly a social group and having fun with our pre 1973 street rods and custom cars. We enjoy regular get togethers, parties, working on our cars and cruising to area car shows and events. New Donut Gang friends must be sponsored by an existing member. Other objectives are as follows.
Each month a different Donut Gang member takes the reins of "the Gang" and coordinates an event. It can be a hill country cruise... a Saturday morning gathering for donuts and coffee... or a Friday "date night" cruise with the ladies for a burger. The Donut Gang is recognized by a couple of logos. The original logo features a glazed donut surrounded by the words, "Donut Gang of Austin." There are many hats, shirts and decals on our cars with that original logo. A newer logo features a 1934 Ford Roadster and the words, " Donut Gang of Austin." The new logo also appears on shirts and hats and our new Donut Gang plaques.
