There is something about a string of Hot Rods cruising down the early morning highway, everyone keeping an eye on the ride in front and behind, with the folks on the highway all wanting to wave and honk......this is what being in a car club is all about!!

After leaving the "very hip" coffee shop at 7:15 with Stan-o-matic in the lead with his built for cruisin' Merc, the new pin striping on the hood and trunk proclaiming that "this Merc' is the real thing", we picked up a nice 60-65mph cruising speed. Of course, Roy was in the 2nd spot in the sweetest little chopped '40 Ford pickup ever to rap a set of tailpipes, followed by the Artster in his "clear sky", stroker-powered '56. Then it was Tony in "34 Play", lookin' way cool with the '34 Ford hood sides removed, his head bobbing away in time to the Cindy Cashdollar CD playin on the stereo, with yours truly, Too Low, in the Thunder Chicken T-Bird, my head bobbing along in time to the tunes on my Mini I-Pod.  Right behind me was a strangely civilized Ozman in his super cool Chevy sedan with his high school sweetheart, Nancy sittin' beside him. Bringin' up the rear was the Huggy Bear, Jeff in his way high-tech Deuce coupe with an Oval theme, his pal (another name I don't remember) ridin' shotgun. Man, this is living!!

When we stopped for grits at the Bluebonnet Cafe (on our way to the Bluebonnet Car Show) we picked up Ron "nothin' he can't do" Kitchens in Linda's "still smells new" Chebby pickup, with the orange wheels that can't possibly work with that paint job, but do....and work well at that!

Also joining us at breakfast was Paul "suicide door doesn't mean drive with 'em open" Brault in the newly repaired 3-window deuce coupe with his bud ridin' shotgun (just one more name for me to forget). After chowin' down (and Oz didn't even eat any pie!) we all lined up and headed out for the 15 mile cruise to Burnet.  We were joined at the car show by Dan and Jane in the "still sits too high for me, but I love the side pipes" '58 Chevy Impala, and a little later Tom and Pam Porter showed up in Tom's way cool Classic plastic car. There were a total of 143 cars there.

After a while, Tony and Art climbed into the T-Bird with me and it was off to the Air Show where anybody from the Car Show got free parking up front.  We were all blown away watching the MIG go through its paces, followed by a pair of prop planes that were every bit as exciting but easier to follow.
So, how was your day?

Too Low
